Happy Thursday, Oppo. Just like the future, the weekend is almost here.
Skyfire77's !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! yesterday about SpaceX’s flying grain silo got me looking at 1950s science fiction art. It was the golden age for the genre, though this looks like a more recent work. I’m guessing the passengers in this space rocket plane will be enveloped in some sort of antigravity suspension force field, because acceleration would be pretty intense at that launch angle.

this is dumb. it clearly has an ability to angle itself up for launch, but for loading the cargo and inspecting the engine it should be at its horizontal and low setting.
stupid future.

The n again, if the past could see the present, they'd probably be dumbfounded at a lot of the stupid stuff we do.

I’ve always enjoyed concept art. Ideas in their early form are interesting.

That’s super cool. I wonder also how many great ideas were originated by artists with now engineering background who drew something they just thought looked cool.

Acceleration: It could get lift from those wings, it could have vectored thrust, it could launch more vertically like the rockets it the background, and of course that might not even be Earth so different gravity may apply.
None of this explains what’s going on with Mr. Shorts/boots/briefcase/ space helmet/cigarette though.

I thought maybe it would raise to vertical, but that dorsal wing prevents that. Considering that we have Mr. Shorts/boots/briefcase/space helmet/cigarette talking to a lovely lady from the future, that rocket may be more than just a rocket.
